Seattle Series - Fort Steilacoom report

Fort Steilacoom, WA….Sunday, September 24, 2006… a hot and sunny day greeted the racers competing in the first installment of Seattle’s 9 race series. Rumors have the total number of entrants for all categories at over 500. Incredible. Temps were in the mid to high 70’s for most of the day’s races. The course was dry and very dusty and included the thigh-busting ‘Knapp Time’ run-up that instills fear into the hearts and minds of all who face it. Dan ’The Danimal’ Neyens (Hagens Berman) took the win in the Mens 1/2 race, edging out Shannon ’Ripped Calves’ Skerritt (Vanilla) in a battle to the finish of the 7 lap race. The four man sprint was also contested by Russell Stevenson (BRI) and Jonny Sundt (Hagens Berman). In the women’s 1/2 race, top NW cross queen, Ann Knapp (Kona), edged out perennial powerhouse Kristi Berg (Group Health) to take the victory. For results of all 18 categories, check out the series site.

One interesting stat that was given in the results was the average lap time of every competitor. It is an interesting way to compare athletes across different categories and genders. Here are the winning average lap times of some of the biggest categories.
