Euro-trash poser? Uhhh.. no, he’s the real deal.

There were rumors flying yesterday of a guy at Seattle’s ‘cross race rolling around in a full Cofidis kit. The bright white shorts and jersey contrasted well with all the mud that was everywhere. He probably drew a few snickers and comments as he warmed up on the school grounds prepping for the Mens 1/2 race. What kind of poser buys an entire Pro Euro kit (socks/gloves/cap/everything) and then shows up at a local cross race? Who does this guy think he is, Ben Berden?

Well, turns out it was a true European Pro, straight outta the UCI Pro Tour peloton, Washington native, Tyler Farrar (COFIDIS). Unfortunately for him (and us), he dnf’d. We are not sure whether it was a mechanical that caused him to withdraw mid-race or that he simply came to the realization that he was jeopardizing his pro cycling career by riding around on a greasy sketchy and down-home local cross race. Knowing his adventure for racing, we suspect it was a misfortunate mechanical. Whatever the reason, it was very euro-cool to have Tyler in the local northwest scene, if not for just a few laps. He is following in the footsteps of fellow Euro pro, Chris Horner in taking up the sport of cross on this side of the pond. We hope to see Tyler on the local start grid again soon.
