The Battle at Barlow

First we had The Thrilla in the Milla (Bend, OR style), and not to be outdone, Veloce Bicycles presents “The Battle at Barlow”, Saturday, October 7th at Sam Barlow High School, site of one of the most popular Cross Crusade courses from back in the day. Check out the race flier here and get on over to this classic heavy-weight throw-down on the first Saturday in October. Registration opens at 9am, racing starts at 10am and the big boys step into the ring at 2pm sharp! With an open weekend this early in the season, there is NO excuse not to show up and get down. We'll re-post this announcement again closer to race day and remind everyone to get out and battle.

kickin' it off

The first race of the season is in the books. The Labor Day Cross Championships were held at South Seatac Park and promoters announced a record turnout for the event. Skies were blue, temps were hot, the course was dusty and the racing was fast. A combination of single-track separated by beaches (read sand pits) created some very tough and technical racing for the first event of the year. Results will be provided as soon as they are released.

Two cyclocross series kick off tonight. In Bend, Oregon, the promoters of the Thrilla in the Milla start their 4 race series . So get down there and enjoy all the action. Also, a huge props to our friends in Alaska who are getting a jump on the season by starting their series tonight at Kincaid Stadium for Arctic Cross #1. Josh and Will have put together a 2 mile loop for tonight’s race. Check out the map of the totally euro-looking course here. Their 6 race series concludes on October 7th, which happens to be the same time some of the ‘cross series in the lower 48 really getting rolling. Why the early start? One would imagine that cross in AK in Nov/Dec could get a bit dicey.
