LIVE World Cup Race

For those interested in such things, get in front of your computer at 6am on Sunday morning and tune-in to cycling.tv to catch live coverage of this week's stop on the Cyclocross World Cup tour. The race this week comes from Igorre, Spain. Not the hotbed of cyclocross as other stops on the circuit but it will inevitably serve up a heap of good race action.

Fort Flagler Race Previews

This weekend is the two-day Fort Flagler cross fest, featuring races #7 and #8 in the Seattle Cyclocross Series. Unlike last year, this year will feature two totally unique courses in different parts of the park. Race director and course creator Andy Dahlstrom:

"Flagler courses: Saturday will be similar to years past: down along the water, roller-coaster trails, in and out of the woods and campsites. One natural run-up, and some open field barriers. One big climb, and the sand pit, next to the bonfire. Sunday is all new. The course runs in and around the military bunkers and berms of the Fort's old gun emplacements. Instead of barriers, we have several short 'n' steep hills--one rideable, two are run-ups. Otherwise, it's pretty flat and fast. With sandy soils and hard-packed service roads, the courses shouldn't be too muddy, except by design."

Hop on a ferry and make your way over to Fort Flager for two days of great racing. Lodging is available for those who want to make a weekend out of it.

Sprockettes Dance Party/Cyclocross Weekend

What does one get when one blends top-flite cyclocross, interpretive dance, a drum circle, and a bunch of guys in a hot tub? We have no idea either, but here’s a best guess courtesy of Dan Kaufman and CrankMyChain:

what a difference a week makes

Last Sunday, Ryan Trebon (AEG TOSHIBA) (looks like KONA) was racing at Hillsboro Stadium winning the 2006 USGP title. Fast forward 6 days and he's racing in Europe with the world's elite at this weekend's World Cup stop in Koksijde, Belgium.

Here's a picture of our pride and joy. Mr. Nys destroyed the field, winning by nearly a minute.

New York Times coverage

Cyclocross in the northwest must be reaching the big time, or at least 'crossing' over into the mainstream. There was an article in the New York Times this week about last Sunday's USGP finale in Portland. Check out the article here.

it's quiet....maybe too quiet...

Happy belated Thanksgiving from the crew at Maddog202020. We ate too much as usual but it provided the incentive we needed to get out on the bike and work off a few calories.

Wow, it's either feast or famine in the NW 'cross world. A few weekends back we had 10 or 12 races a weekend. This weekend, with the cancellation of the Helena, MT nationals prep race, we are left with the lone cross race, Huffy Cross, which took place yesterday just outside of Bellingham. Rumors of snow in Bellingham yesterday morning made for a fun day of racing at Lake Padden. We will post results as soon as they become available from the promoters.

Next week we get back into the flow with the Seattle series hosting their Fort Flagler cyclocross festival, two days of racing on two different courses, lodging, dinner, probably campfires and s'mores too. Also, Veloshop and Portland Racing are promoting Kruger's Crossing at Sauvie Island on Sunday, December 3rd. Also, Montana has another nationals prep race scheduled in Helena, MT. The links in the calendar on the right will give you all the race day details.
