Crosstoberfest

hot off the wires, this sounds like a good one. The good folks at Ragnarok Racing who brought you Tour de Tunnel in years past try sticking closer to home this time around and hope to draw a larger crowd. With no ferry ride and situated between Seattle and Bellevue, the venue at St. Edwards Park could definitely bring out the crowds. In the tradition of European Oktoberfest traditions comes Crosstoberfest.

The second race in the 4-race series is this upcoming Wednesday, September 13th.

One of the highlights of the local race northwest calendar occurs at the end of September. Star Crossed is an event unlike any other. Presented by Hagens Berman Cycling the race features National-caliber talent racing under the lights at night at the Marymoor Velodrome cheered on by huge crowds that ring the velodrome and fill the course-side beer garden. A DJ spins tunes for the racers and spectators and knowledgeable announcers call all the action as the course winds its way in and out and around the velodrome. Previous entrants in past years have included Carl Decker, Ryan Trebon, Barry Wicks, Todd Wells, Geoff Kabush, Mark McCormack, Tim Johnson and Jonny Sundt. Women that have competed in the past include Ann Knapp, Lynn Bessette and Wendy Simms. This years will be no exception as pros will be kicking off their season in style. It all goes down on Saturday, September 30th. The racing begin at 3pm with the Elite Men racing at 8pm. The race website and flyer are here and the promoters are stepping up this year and have put together a promotional video. Enjoy.

The season is quickly heating up with a few more series kicking off this weekend and next weekend. Check the race calendar located in the right column for the dates and the locations that are having races that day.

The BC Cross Cup in British Columbia begin their 6 race series today with the kick-off event held at Fort Langley and presented by Steamer Racing. Here is all the info you need to know and even comes in a convenient printable race flyer suitable for sticking on the front of the fridge. The promoter had this to say about the race: "For the men's race, the obvious favorite is Andrew Pinfold. Coming off an incredible road season, watch for 'Pinner' to blow away the competition in the Mens A category. In the women's race, Stacey Spencer will be a strong rider to keep an eye on. If Wendy Simms decides to ride the women's race (she raced the men's race last year), then she is a good pick for the win." We will have all the results as soon as they are available.
